The escalator, Supermarket romp & fuel stop sequence are 'Dawn of the Dead'. The Mercedes encountered at the start abandoned in the road parallels 'Night of the Comet', and the chained-up Zombie kept by the Army is straight out of 'Day of the Dead'. Enjoy 28 days later - you will - but then read 'The Day of the Triffids' (BBC did a good mini-series in the early 80s) and watch 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Day of the Dead' (available on DVD here on Amazon!) & If you can find it, 'Night of the Comet'.Ģ8 Days does pay 'homage' to some of it's sources in the film. The real reason, although I thoroughly enjoyed (& recommend) this film, that I have any problem with 28 Days later is that I could see nothing (literally, scene by scene) that wasn't ripped off from at least half a dozen other 'Zombie' or 'post apocalypse' films. In this regard some bloodthirsty horror buffs may be disappointed!

My technical gripe would be that I suspect this movie was made with both TV and Video markets rather than Cinema in mind: It was shot on video (though using an effect now common that makes it 'film-like') & it isn't nearly as gory as some frightened viewers have made out - I don't recall any scenes that would need cutting for post-watershed broadcast, most (if not all) violence occurs either out of sight or while the cameraman is shaking his kit like maraccas. All true except the last bit, but they are fast! Plenty of tension, some scares, some nice dark apocalyptic scenes and bionic zombies.
